WebDec 18, 2013 · 1) remove the entire drip rail in one piece. 2) Bend 1/8" rod to contours of window. 3) Tack weld 1/8" rod in between roof and former window channel. 4) Completely weld in entire rod moving around and pacing yourself to reduce warpage. 5) Fill in area with filler, using window edge of rod as your new defined line. WebDec 31, 2004 · Im going to be doing that on my 68. you just have to drill out the spot welds that hold it in place and it should fall right out. maybe do a little weld over it if you go through the pillar or roof metal. but there is a tool i saw that you can get that drills only through the spot weld so you dont drill through everything and make a mess.

It's not just decoration. However, If you really have your heart set on doing this, you'll want to do a few inches at a time, leaving most of the rail in place as support.

If you want to shave them just use a body saw and take your time to cut them off. I would then weld the seam cut solid and grind it down to a smooth finish. That's why I did it in sections, welding every other one, then shaving the rest of the sections. The best section width was about 4 inches max. This method worked well, but takes more time than just whacking the rail off (hoping it all stays in the same place), then welding it all up. high times job opportunitiesWebDec 18, 2007 · When I cut off the drip rail I was left with 2 seperated pieces of metal. The inner roof and the outer roof. Also the outer roof has a beveled lip and I had to flatten it. Then I spot welded all along the 2 seams. Then grinded a nice flat surface to the edge.
